The CO-CAPTAIN project continues to generate scientific evidence to address health inequalities. Recently, an article has been published in the Journal of Cancer Policy that analyses the challenges and opportunities for improving access to cancer prevention services for people with mental health problems in Europe.
The study, conducted in Austria, Greece, Poland and Spain, analyses how individual, professional and health system factors influence these inequalities, and highlights the importance of personalised interventions and strategies that promote more inclusive care environments.
Barriers identified include lack of information about available services, stigma and low integration of mental and somatic health services. On the other hand, factors such as social support and improved health literacy were identified as key elements in facilitating access.
This article reinforces CO-CAPTAIN’s commitment to designing tailored interventions that empower people with mental health problems, reduce risks and promote more inclusive care settings.
